The Italian court sentenced Robinho to 9 years in prison in 2017 after the rape charges were proven. However, even though Robinio left Italy before that, he appealed against the verdict in the court of Milan in 2020. He lost the appeal.

Then in 2022, Italy's highest court upheld his sentence and at the same time asked the Brazilian government to carry it out. Brazil's Superior Court of Justice (STJ) previously said it would review Robinho's punishment.

Italian lawyers also issued an international arrest warrant for Robinho. But the Brazilian government does not extradite a Brazilian citizen to foreign judicial authorities when he returns to his country after committing a crime abroad.
